McDOWELL RALLIES LATE FOR LANCASTER WIN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

LANCASTER, SC - Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA made a late race pass for
the lead, and then went on to win the SpeedSportsbook.Com 30 for the United
Dirt Track Racing Association Pro DirtCar Series Friday night at Lancaster
Motor Speedway. With his first win of the 2002 season, the 1999 UDTRA
Champion takes over the point lead.

Steve Francis of Ashland, KY led the first 27 laps of the race, but
McDowell moved his Larry Shaw Race Cars Rocket/Custom Grand Prix to the
outside to make the winning pass. Francis finished second in the
Valvoline/Mopar Parts Rocket/Stanton Intrepid.

"Francis got held up in lapped traffic and we were able to reel him in,"
McDowell said. "I tried the bottom groove a few times, but this is a
momentum race track, so I got a good run on him on the outside, and I was
able to pass him for the lead."

Randle Chupp of Mooresville, NC finished third in the Biscotti's Restaurant
and Winery/Park Ohio Rocket/Draime Grand Prix. Jimmy Mars of Elk Mound,
WI
took the fourth spot in the Jimmy Mars Racing Mastersbilt/Pro Power Monte
Carlo.

Four-time UDTRA Champion Scott Bloomquist was the Advance Auto Parts Hard
Charger of the Race and picked up a $150 bonus by racing to a fifth-place
finish after starting his Miller Brothers Coal Warrior/Custom Taurus from
the 16th starting spot.

The 1997 UDTRA Champion Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR in the Petroff
Towing/J&J Steel Rayburn/Dickens Taurus and defending UDTRA Champion Rick
Eckert of York, PA in the Raye Vest Rocket/Cornett Taurus finished in a
dead
heat for the sixth spot. Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL claimed the
eighth spot in the Lucas Oil/Dunn-Benson Ford Rocket/Eatmon Taurus.

Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR was ninth in the JFR Graphics/Monday
Motorsports GRT/Gaerte Grand Prix, and Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA
rallied from the 20th starting spot to finish 10th in the Seubert Calf
Ranches Mastersbilt/Pro Power Grand Prix.

Francis grabbed the lead at the start of the race followed by McDowell,
Chupp, Eckert and Mars. By lap four, Mars moved up to battle with Eckert
side-by-side for the fourth spot.

By the halfway point at lap 15, it was Francis, McDowell, and Chupp, while
Eckert held off Mars for the fourth spot. Moyer, Booper Bare of Rockridge
Baths, VA in the Styers Curbing Rocket/Rumley Monte Carlo, Pearson, Wallace
and Bloomquist ran sixth through tenth respectively.

Bloomquist was charging through the field, and moved up to eighth position
by lap 17, and on lap 19, McDowell had caught Francis in lapped traffic.
Mars passed Eckert for fourth on lap 20. Bloomquist raced up to the sixth
spot on lap 25, and then passed Eckert for fifth on lap 26.

The last few laps of the race saw McDowell looking to the inside of Francis
to challenge for the lead, but he was unable to take the point. On lap
28,
McDowell got a run on Francis on the high side coming off the second turn.
McDowell kept his momentum down the backstretch, and drove around Francis
on
the outside for the lead in turn three.

McDowell then pulled away in the last three laps of the race to post his
first win of the season and take a ten point lead over Eckert in the UDTRA
point standings.

Chupp set a new track record in qualifying with a lap around the 1/2-mile
clay oval in 19.370 seconds for an average speed of 92.927 miles per hour
to
eclipse the old mark of 19.590 seconds. A total of five drivers in the
30-car field were below the old track record.

Francis picked up a $100 bonus by winning the JE Pistons second eight-lap
Heat Race, and Eckert was the $50 Scott Performance Wires Award winner with
a third heat race win. McDowell won the first heat race. Dennis Franklin
of Gaffney, SC won the Polaris ATVs 10-lap Consolation Race in the Hamricks
of Gaffney Mastersbilt/Cornett Taurus.

Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, TN was the Lucas Oil Rookie of the Race with
a
17th-place finish in the Calhoun's Restaurant GRT/Clements Monte Carlo.
Shane Tankersley of Morganton, GA finished 22nd in the J.T. Kerr Racing
Equipment Stinger/Race Tech Grand Prix and leads the Lucas Oil Rookie of
the
Year point standings by 50 points over Ogle.

The UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series returns to Lancaster Motor Speedway on Saturday
night with a 50-lap $10,000-to-win main event. The pit gate opens at 2
p.m., the front gate opens at 4 p.m., hot laps are set for 6:30 p.m., and
qualifying is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
