Gene's right, you should check for vaccum leaks.

DEMONS run on the idle curcuit alot longer than others, they won't pull fuel through the boosters til about 3000 rpm. So if you don't have a vacumn leak, you must have the idle mixture screws turned in to far. with engine not running bottom the screws in all the way (alot of times these screws hit the bowl before they are in all the way, it may bend the bowl flange in aliitle to get them in all the way. then turn them out 2 1/2 turns each. start engine if it still won't idle turn them another turn each(keep all screws turned out the same amount. Once you get it to idle, let engine warm up and slowly adjust in or out in small incerments til you get the highest idle.
Keep in mind if the butterflys are open to far it will uncover the transfer slot in the base plate and won't adjust correctly.
If you can't get it to idle even with them ******* out along ways try covering the idle air bleeds in to top of carb with you're fingers. These are the out side ones not the inside ones (2 for the front and 2 for the back). Pluging these with you're finger will richen the idle mixture and let you know it's lean. Some of the early speed demons needed restrictors install in them. If your'e out more than 3 1/2 turns on the idke mixture screws it usually need the restrictors installed.

On my Gold Claw I had to put in smaller air bleeds to get it to idle correctly.
