New board of directors at Hayden Speedway
HAYDEN, Colo. (March 26) - Scott McKinney has added promotional duties to his part-time public relations work for Hayden Speedway.
He's part of a new speedway board of directors that aims to make the track family friendly.
"We want to promote Hayden Speedway as a place you can bring the entire family to, with the best value for the en-tertainment dollar," McKinney said. "We're going to do whatever we can to get people in the stands."
No alcohol will be sold at the track - adults can still bring canned beverages in coolers - a security guard has been hired to work each of the eight race dates on the 2002 schedule and another set of bleachers will be put up to expand fan seating.
Members of the new track board are Justin Gallegos, president; Justin Forbes, vice president; Candi Kawcak, secre-tary; and Marilyn McKinney, treasurer.
Scott McKinney, Karen House and Mike Fuller comprise the PR committee that has already lined up sponsors for each race program. They've also enlisted 23 sponsors for the track's junior fan club, up from 10 sponsors last year.
The 1/4 mile dirt track will be re-surfaced during two work weekends that precede opening night on May 18. New lighting has been put up on the outside of the track and the old light poles in the infield will be removed.
I.M.C.A.-sanctioned Modifieds return to the regular programs and racing at Hayden Speedway runs every other Satur-day to Aug. 24.
Along with promotional and public relations chores, McKinney will compete at Hayden. A self-described "4-cylinder guy," he'll pursue a third straight championship in a Volkswagon in what is now the track's sport stock class.
