(March 7) - A portion of the race night rumble this season at Bottineau's Thunder Mountain Speedway will be provided by I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modifieds. The sanctioned division will join the every-other-Saturday show beginning with opening night on May 18. "Other tracks in our area have gone to the I.M.C.A. sanction. This is the right way for us to go," said Verdell Lund, who will co-promote the track with Mike Condit. Both are on the board that oversees operation of the 1/4 mile clay track. The Thunder Mountain Speedway club built the facility 10 years ago, with help from Bottineau County. Club members now have different assignments in doing everything from selling ads for the race program to watering the track explained Lund, who will also do much of the flagging. Equipment at the track has been updated and signage remodeled in preparation for 2002. President of the Thunder Mountain Speedway board is Norm Reitan. Points races will continue into August.
