posted July 08, 2001 11:29 PM I talked with a well known racer around my area this weekend about hosting a large scale race (2 day event) during this time of the year. He made a very valid point to me that I wanted to share and get your views on this. Most of the more serious drivers in their classes run points races thru the year. Putting a large scale show on during the middle part of the year isnt a great idea because of the drivers that are tied up in their points racing. Most of the people that are doing the big time points racing are a lot of the really good drivers in the division. So, putting a big money race up during this part of the year wasn't such a good idea. I want to hear your views on this.

I agree. I have never started a race season with the intent of being a contender in the points race. Quite a few times I have found myself with a large lead around this time of the year. And have won several points championships. Which usually only means nice size trophy and a jacket. And for what ever reason something has always happened to the money, lost, stolen, ect.. But I understand there are track owners out there that are not crooks.
