What are the advantages and dis of running a glide vs a 400 or a 350 turbo?

I know you can get the kits to roll start the glide. And the glide can be made direct drive.

What do you think?

Some guys run a 'glide without any problems,my experience was always bad.It's alot lighter internally than a 350 and the 400 but they may be more durable and it seems like they are easier to get parts for nowdays.

we have had nothing but troubles with our glides in our mod going to a 3 speed this year in that in my bomber i run a 350 because i have to but have had no troubles with the one i have just pulled her out of a junker and put a new filter in it. 400 are to heavy and aren't realy made to take the on and off driving in a racecar they are made more for pulling heavy loads if i had the choice i would run a 3 speed my second would be 350 ,then glide and last 400

A properly prepaired glide is by far the best choice for automatics. Yes they can be made direct pretty easily but I will not divulge those secrets. Anyone having problems breaking cases or pulling tailshaft bushings out is not properly installing/using the tranny. A good one should last years in a street stock.

OK so why even come to a forum like this if you dont wanna share ideas, cause the way I see it you should try and help people espeically if you know a easy way, I would much rather out drive some one for a victory than have all the Quote "little secrets that you dont wanna divulge" I know I probly should have kept to myself on this, heck I dont even have a powerglide nor do I plan on getting one but If I could have helped someone I would not be in hear saying "i know something you dont know" Thanks all

if a lower powered ride on dirt a stock V8 spec glide will hold up fine, simply diassemble the front pump drill and tap a 3/8 pipe thread hole in both the suction and pressure side install a high pressure hose at least 3/8 Id on a nipple in each connect in the middle with a ball valve.use the valve as a clutch valve open same as pushing clutch closed valve same as releasing pedal with practice its easy DON'T LOAD CAR WITH TRANS to much slipping will burn clutches. higher horses or big tires you use good after market cluch kit and after market drum assy for insurance. B&M sells a shift kit cheap you can add to the valve body to improve holding power if it becomes a prob, but remember these weak trannys were used stock behind big blocks in heavy cars for years without problems.
