i have a chevy rearend in my car and the yoke has a lot of slop in it it makes a loud CLANK every time i put it in gear.any suggestions thanx

are you sure it's not just the u joint i would check that also while you have the drive shaft out put the car on the ground and see if you can move the yoke at all the worse case your pinion splines are wore and would need to be replaced also might want to check that the spool or spiders are alright

yeah i thought it was the u joint but it wasnt guess ill pull ot out to look at it

It might just need to be adjusted, but I doubt it. I bet you will need to get some new parts.

The splines in the yolk are softer than the pinion...Bearing wear can also cause this play..As far as the noise,I have seen axel studs wear the holes in the drums allowing a little slop...I know tight lugnuts should keep this from happening...But I have seen it..

if your crush sleeve is crushed more then it is supose to be it will cause that to..I had to replace mine a few years back..

Pickel is right...
If you just tighten the nut...You will pull the pinion foward in the housing and mess up the relation of the pinion to the ring...

i had that problem too with my pick up, i had a bad hanger along with u-joint
