I am new to racing and working on cars in general. I noticed that the power steering box on my car was leaking fliud. What could be the problem. The car is a '85 Monte Carlo. Thanks for any and all help.

is it the original pump and lines if not you might have the wrong style fitting for your gear box metric cars have an o ring style box and a flare box i'm willing to bet thats your problem. start the car up and have someone turn the wheel if it's leaking on the fitting you'll need to change them

Also if it leaks when you shut it off it's the return,if while running it's the pressure side.

we run a power steering box but without power.ours leaks too, anybody know what's gonna happen when it runs out of fluid. the lines are just capped off and its leaking out the front seal. any help appreciated

a buddy of mine tried it he wasn't as strong as he thought he was lol mysuggestion to everybody is find a monte carlo or impala that has a 305 and take the box,lines,pump and brackets off it thats what i did

no power here. ran three races last year didn't seem to be problem but by the way everyone talks i'll look like popeye by the end of the year

Jammin James i run the power steering box without the pump although i didnt just cap it off. I took a syringe( can be bought at the local IFA ) and filled the box as much as I could then I cut the old lines off the hose and got some rubber tube and connected them together so the fluid could run back and forth if need be. Was told not to just cap them off. Eddie

you can buy a seal kit for about 12 bucks. also, redneck was right you need to run a hose from each port, conecting the two together.
