Hi rookieracer. Several ways to do it. First use a 12 v to start the engine with. Then either get an 18 v battery to run only the ignition from Performance Distributors or wire a small 6v motor cycle battery with a switch. Turn on the 6v after the engine is started. The above is the simple explanation. I wrote an article in Stock Car Racing detailing this. I don't have good archives right now but I think it was printed in the summer of '02. If I can locate it I'll post you back right here. Thanks SLEEPY

Do you need a special charger for the 18V battery?

Sorry, I don't know where to find a copy except to find some one locally who has a copy or the backorder store. After moving here from Dallas, my archives are all mixed up. You are welcome to come over to my place and straighten them all up. I figure you could do it in about three days. I'll be glad to order in pizza.

The charger: chargers are like batteries. Use two small chargers together in series to get 18 v. Tie a positive lead on one charger to the negative lead on the other. Then the other pos and neg leads will be 18 v. Or you can buy an 18 v charger from Performance Distributors.

sleepy, If you hook up a 6 volt and a
12 volt battery together to get 18 volts
all the time, will that work?

Hi yaz. yes, that is what I meant to say. 6 plus 12 equals 18. I attached both of mine to a board then wired the power cords together and a pos and neg together. This way I could have an 18 v charger in one piece with one plug in. Worked fine for me when we were running a sprint car. SLEEPY
