We need to redrill our axle flanges from 5 on 4 3/4 bolt pattern to 5 on 5. Does any one make a inexpensive jig? Is there a better way? The obvious soultion would be to buy some high quality axles with the proper pattern, but the $$$ factor is really starting to kick in. Thanks for the help!!

i've done it on a drill press using a "wheel bolt pattern checker" as a template. i removed the table on the drill press and used the hole that held the table to hold the axle. i had to make a sleeve out of some sheet aluminum so i could clamp the axle down. take your time. i used a magic marker to mark all of the holes. then i used a center punch to dimple the axle to keep the drill bit from walking.

this is the "low-buck" method and it has worked for me. the holes may not be "absolutely perfect" but if you take your time, they will be very close. i haven't had any problems with the ones i've re-drilled.

alternatively, you can take the axles to a machine shop and they can index them on a machine and it will be perfect. they will also charge you a handsome fee as the set-up takes some time to do.

The car is a late 70's (metric) Impala with a 7.5, 10 bolt rear end. I understand that some GM full size used the 5x5 pattern, but all we can find are the 4 3/4x5. Thanks for all the help!!!
