I have a metric monte that I race on 1/2 mile medium bank dirt track. I have just put 1200rf,1000lf,250lr,200rr, with afco 1022rf,1021lf and afco in the back just forgot the numbers. The car is 3500 pounds. QUESTION: What do I do with the sway bars there is one on the front and back?

We dropped our rear sway bar last season, what advantage is gained by getting rid of the front one? Weight?

the front sway bar limits the front suspensions ability to act independantly. on a dirt track, you need the front wheels to be able to follow the ruts and dips in the track independantly to be most effective at turning the car controllably. losing the extra weight is a plus as well.

I'll probably get blasted here, but what the heck. I run a 1" sway bar on the front. You have to change your front spring rates, I run 1000lb springs across the front. Tie the right side down with the factory type bushings, and leave the left side float with a through bolt. It should have about 1/8 inch play between the sway bar and the top nut to start.

pdub25,

Have you ever run without the swaybar?
I'm curious as to why you run it, it seems that most dirt guys don't.
What differences have you noticed?
Thanks.

I have ran both with and without the sway bar. I like the "feel" with the swaybar, and dont have the bouncing effect going through the corners. I have heard the same complaint from lots of driver's at the track. Plus, it improved lap times by almost 3 tenths. Can't argue with the stop watch.

Although it wont help a serious handling problem, you can adjust the swaybar to slightly loosen or tighten the car. Another benefit, in my view.

Unfortunately there is no perfect set up......try it one way, and then the other. Run whatever works best for you.

we have run them both ways on a 5/8 dry slick track and i like it on, but the track is like asphalt, we have won both ways, but we take them off for the all other tracks we run at ,the car just works better on rough and tacky tracks without them, just my thoughts
