A Turbo 350 has a centrifugal governer for 1st gear. Never tried it personally, but have been told that by removing the teeth from the gear on the governer where it enguages the transmission, it will stay in 1st gear untill manually shifted. Any body else tried this????

something may not be working correctly in the trans. It should stay in low if its in low. low2 i ain't sure about. You can try a dash 2 valve body shift kit. they are made to stay in the gear they are in.

many turbo 350 trans would shift from low to second at factory preset rpm regardless of shifter position this was because during the muscle car era a lot of cars showed up at the dealer with mysterious noises on mondays
and the owner had no idea what happened the general did this to prevent warranty claims because engines accidently
hit 8000 rpm 1 to many times. it can be cured with a shift kit or the go. trick

If it is actually "shifting"it self by moving the rod then u may look at engine mounts or tranny mount broke or weak.I used to have that problem until I made a latch to hold it back(shifter rod).I am going to solid engine mounts this winter.

sideways thats a good point, the shifter rod is actaully moving ahead, and on the straight-aways i yank it back real i will check the trans mounts.

A T350 will not automaticly shift to second as long as its in 1rst, a T400 will though. Removing the teeth on the governer will work, it wont shift out of first to second no matter what you do. However if you ever want to shift again you have to replace the governer. I had my tranny for 2 years like this, it will not cause any problems.
