From what I read on this forum most folks seem to want to run around 6000 rpm and adjust their final ratio to do this. At my track bombers must be completely stock (20 inch vacuum rule). If the peak horsepower on a chevy 350 is advertised at just under 5000 rpm, shouldn't that be the rpm range I should gear for? Or should I gear for peak torque? Would I be losing acceleration if I ran higher than the peak HP range? Any help will be appreciated.

If you drive smooth gear for torque it will be easier to pass coming out of the corners.Your motor will last a lot longer at 5000 rpm also.
