i asume you are talking about indepentent rear suspention right ? yes it would help but i'm not sure how you would go about setting it. it would more than likelywould be like a sick bird anywhere you go and alot time and money to set it up

The reason I ask is that the 89 Tbird I have came stock with independent rear suspension, and the parts exist to beef it up a lot (axles that will easily take 400+ HP drag launches with slicks). I have run Tbird street cars for years, and I love the IRS, but I just wondered if it would be much of an advantage. I know in the rules for our track it says either stock rear end or 9". No rules about no IRS.

we runn 4 cylinder stock and mod toyotas and nissans with independent rearends and they are dominant over the solid axle mustangs. i bet it would be pretty dominant but you would have to find a v8 bird first

Find a V8 bird? I have two in my driveway I don't have to look too hard. I would love to run circles around the metrics. I would laugh. The only question would be what to run for a motor...

next time you look at the rear take a good look at the front they are not a solid front stub like on a nova of 2nd generation camaros they will not take the abuse most guys you see running those birds are on ltd full frames that are cut down to match the wheel base but if you want to build a throw away car give it a try if you were on asphalt it might work but dirt will eat it alive

The main problem on dirt with IRS is no anti squat. No rearend twist to plant the tires. Therefore no forward bite.

Having the ability to adjust caster/camber in the rear? Sounds like an advantage to me.

Also you can build this T-bird just like a mini-stang, build the crush zone in front of the strut towers and let her rip, should be very light and agile, as long as you connect the front and rear stubs good.

Just Drop a Big 'Ol 351/396 in there and tear up some of those chevy's. No Fear.

One thing that you might want to watch! Our rules around here specify "no rack and pinion steering". I was thinking that some of those T-bird were rack&pinion. Correct me if I am wrong, but I did hear on one T-bird that was not allowed to run at a nearby track.

if you dont get traction and independent rearends tear up so much how come they are in the top 3 almost every week at my track and i havent seen one break an axle shaft yet
