Well I quess I am tire-less!

Dirt track newbe trying to find what tires work th ebest on a dry slick track. Looking around our track I see viturally everything. Our rules state they must be passenger DOT spec tires.
Right now I am looking at the Futura GLS and going to look at the Firestone Firehawk. What are some of the favorites around? What am I really looking for in the tire? Tracking ratings don't seem to be consistant.

Fisrt all it depends on what type of dirt.(clay ,sandy, etc.)Here in Northeren Ky,(on clay) the best tire for a dry/slick track is the Goodyear Wingfoot or the General XP2000(Contintal Tires make a clone Conti Trac 2000.

We are running a Cooper Cobra 255/60R15 on an 8 inch wheel. I'm not sure if they have them in your area, but these tires have a nice cross-grooved tread pattern and have had good bite on every surface we've raced on. I believe that Sears handles them, so that may be a good place to start. I had bought mine from a local tire warehouse at a lower price.

A lot of people run Cooper Cobras on cars with strict DOT rules. I run 'em on my real cars, you can get them at Farm and Fleet pretty cheap.
