I just got my first car, a camaro, and I'm was wondering what type of transmission to use. What do you guys run or prefer? A TH350 or 400. Also, what type of torque converter should I look for? Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

T-350 is better than the 400 and the powerglide with a ford nine inch behind it is popular where i'm from

The Turbo 400 is my first choice from a budgeted standpoint. The factory spec 400 is more reliable than a factory spec 350. The 350 will do just as well, but should be rebuilt using a heavy duty kit (not to say that it might not do well with no rebuilding). The Powerglide is the transmission that most short trackers want because you don't need 3 gears on these short tracks. I'm only making an educated guess, but I think that the problem that you will have choosing a powerglide is that to take advantage of shifting gears, you will have to change the gears themselves. Since powerglides have only two gears, the factory final drive gear is much too high for any type of short track racing, dirt, asphalt, or drag.

Actually, the high or second gear of a powerglide is straight up 1.0, so if you've already got a suitable gear in the rear end, nothing, gearwise will be affected by running in second. There are two first gear ratios for powerglides you should know if you will be combining first gear with a tall stock rear end gear, they are: 1.76, and 1.82. You could run a 1.76 glide in first with say a 3.40 stock rear and have a very workable final drive of about 6.00.

go with the 350 or power glide if you can find one but if all you have to choose from is a 350 or 400 then go with the 350 . a 400 is a heavier duty tranny but it is also alot heavier if i rember right and they can't take the on and off that you will do in your stocker 400 is made to pull so put it in your truck lol
