Some people have said 305 rods are lighter than 350 rods(less rotating weight quicker revs).X rods have a X on the cap next to the rod bolt where the nut goes on,if you compare these to regular rods they are more robust looking at the cap end.just my findings hope this helps.

I BLEW A MOTOR THIS SEASON AND HAD TO GET A
NEW BLOCK AND TWO RECONDITIONED RODS. THE MACHINEST TOLD ME THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT
RODS WITH AN X ON THEM, THE ONE HAS MORE METAL AND ISN'T THAT MUCH HEAVIER, BUT IS ALOT STRONGER. HE SAID HE HAS SEEN A FEW OF THE LIGHTER RODS BREAK, HE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THE STRONGER RODS.

Most of the true 350 "X" rods were found in heavy duty applications as in C50,C60 truck engines. I've found that any 350 rod that has been maganfluxed, resized and with "good" rod bolts (190,000 psi) will stand up to 7000 rpms with no problem.

I ran the 305 head combo and it worked good. The block was decked to .005 clearance and the heads were flat milled .030. had good compression with the 305's small chambered head. we ran a 500 holley and stock exhaust mans, power fell off after 6000 rpms, The runners are just to small in these heads unless you port them. Made good low to mid range power.make sure you get a cam that works with this setup and you'll have a good little motor.
