Someone HELP please! I'm running a 2bbl. carb this year and need to know if I should set the timming the same as when using a 4bbl. I am using a Motorcraft carb on a Pontiac 350, 3/8 mile track. I set the timming at about 28 degrees when I was running a 4bbl., it run a little hot until a friend of mine adjusted the timming by ear and it run about 30 degrees cooler. Is this how it should be done, or should it be done by using a timming light and how many degrees? Thanks for your help.

The timing shouldnt be any different than where you ran your four. Sounds like your friend retarded the timing a little for you. May need to back down a few degrees when you time it with a light. This is the only way you know for sure is with a light. But if the timing is retarded too much, it will run hot too. The benchmark for Small block chevy on gas is 36 degrees total advance. Hope this helps.
